The great thing about Mississippi crappie fishing is that excellent catch can be found on many lakes year round. Even better, many of these lakes clear out because seasonal anglers prefer to stay at home in front of the fireplace, telling fish stories about their great spring and summer seasons. Some of the best fishing can actually be had in the winter months, and there are several lakes to choose from as your preferred location.

Barnett Reservoir is a 33,000-acre lake, but in the winter, you’ll find most of the fishing is done in about 50 acres of water. Mississippi crappie fishing enthusiasts will crowd into the upper lake area referred to as Welfare Hole, fishing for the strong crappie population. Due to the bottleneck created at the nearby highway bridge, crappie are attracted to the area and held here, seeking shelter from the current. Though just about anyone could catch a fish here, Mississippi crappie fishing during the winter is most efficient with an electronic depth finder to locate large schools, as well as a lot of patience and your trusty Shimano reels or Daiwa Reels. I prefer to the Shimano Stella FD. Barnett’s spillway also offers great fishing opportunities after a large release of water at the dam. Pelahatchie Creek on the east side of the dam also provides great Mississippi crappie fishing, with anglers targeting the banks where crappie can find deep cover.

Eagle Lake is another excellent location to find crappie. It’s a landlocked oxbow off the Mississippi River close to Vicksburg, famous for producing 10- and 12-inch fish in two years’ time, which is faster than any other lake in the state, according to studies by biologists. Eagle Lake is optimal for pre-spawn winter Mississippi crappie fishing because large females move out of the river channel for shelter. During these times, you can troll for an hour or two and catch your limit. For the best success, troll the deeper waters away from the owner piers, where they regularly deplete the supply in the brush along the banks. According to some sources, the crappie here prefer to remain about 14-15 feet deep in 20-foot deep waters.

Bay Springs Pool, just 30 minutes south of the Tennessee border, is a 5,500-acre lake that gets extremely cold during the winter months. However, during this time, Mississippi crappie fishing yields a great catch, with fat fish resting deep in the lake and ready to bite live bait such as small minnows. The lake contains clear waters, and in 35-50-foot deep areas, you’ll probably find the best, largest winter slabs at depths of 35-40 feet. Using more poles to cover a variety of depths can turn out a limit for the day, even in the dead cold of winter. As a general rule, you’ll probably do better if you have an electronic depth finder with high resolution to assist you in locating large schools of crappie.

The dream of owning land in United States has been shared by millions of people around the globe for centuries. In the 1800’s many thousands of people from the east coast of the US left their homes, jobs, relatives, and friends and headed west to try and claim their share of land west of the Mississippi River. Those were difficult and dangerous times when the pursuit of land could be life threatening, but times have truly changed.

A small company named American Acres, Inc has found a very unique way to provide the American dream of land ownership at super low cost. Well, at least an affirmation of that dream. Let’s say you want to own land. Well how about starting with a single square inch plot? Yes, a ONE-SQUARE INCH PARCEL! You can get the land and a very attractive deed with you name on it to show off to all of your friends for as little as US $3.95. The land is made available through their website at Own A Piece Of America and can be received virtually instantly via an email deed.

These ‘mini-estates,’ which of course are available for each state, can’t be built on, lived on or retired on. Owners cannot make any improvements or develop the parcels. wners shall not occupy the parcels and must grant rights of ingress and egress over their parcel. But they are completely free of additional responsibility and obligations. And the fun of bragging about owning land in the United States is priceless, to say the least!” And oh, what a wonderful gift it makes!

Although use of the land may be limited, the responsibilities (as one would hope) are equally minimal. No paying taxes of any kind…ever! Owners need not mow their lawn, take out the trash, throw away junk mail, participate in local jury duty, or endure any other daily adversities associated with being a land owner.

So, it has been asked, “what is the purpose of owning a one square inch of land…anywhere?” “What can I do with such a tiny piece of earth?”

Well, if you don’t have a sense of humor…or an imagination, then these personalized gifts…legal, yes legal, Deeds to each state just isn’t for you. They are the perfect gift for the person who has everything. It’s the most wonderful unique gift idea for a person who dreams of living in, say Hawaii, California, New York…or anywhere where they don’t live now.

It’s great for holidays Christmas, Chanukah, Valentine’s Day and of course birthdays. Just go to Own A Piece Of America a learn more about the Deeds. In fact you might want to buy a Deed to the United States – one Deed that entitles you to ownership of one square inch of land in all 50 states at once. Check it out at their website.

Never before has something so small become so big. Land from the Own A Piece Of America program has been sold around the world in China, Japan, India, Germany, Spain, The United Kingdom, Canada, of course the USA and many other countries.

Sacramento, the beautiful capital city once popular for the gold rush has now evolved to be one of the most happening places in America. Though Old Sacramento is known for its gilded past, its modern day image highlights tall, gleaming buildings, a vibrant and dynamic art scene and an exuberant nightlife. The pleasant weather has also contributed to the increased number of tourists, making it a traveler paradise. With a number of opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor and daytime activities, the fine dining scenes and the dazzling nightlife has also been picking up over the years.

Though Sacramento has not earned much popularity for its buzzing nightlife, there are still a number of pubs and clubs to go to after a tiring day, to relax. These places are wonderfully designed to suit specific preferences. They are highly entertaining, with good music and a lively ambience. Many restaurants in Old Sacramento and other parts of the city hold live entertainment programs, at least thrice a week. On days when the bands are not playing, DJs play music ranging from country to salsa and swing. Generally, these entertainment hubs play a variety of music and they prefer to play different kind of music each night.

No matter what the form of entertainment is, the main purpose is to keep the ambience as lively as possible, so that people never get bored of the place and pay frequent visits. Clubs close around 2 am and the cover charges are reasonable.

Besides these, there are a number of elite clubs in the city that are exclusively designed for the rich and famous people who wish to have a great time and do not mind spending hefty sums of money on a drink or two. Some of the popular high-end nightclubs are:

Blue Cue: Blue Cue is one of the most popular lounge bars in Sacramento and is situated on the corner of 28th and J streets. It has a pool and shuffleboard tables and is very expensive. Besides, it also offers single malt scotches and premium vodkas.

Amourath 1819: It is a lush lobby- level lounge, with an outdoor patio that is located in the Hyatt Regency and overlooks a glittering pool.

Park Ultra Lounge: It is a hot- shot club with an elegant finish. It is open till 2 in the morning, thereby enabling people to enjoy themselves even after midnight.

In addition to entertaining clubs and pubs, Sacramento is also famous for a large variety of fine dining restaurants, most of which use fresh seasonal Californian ingredients to prepare mouthwatering dishes. Some of the classy restaurants of Sacramento are La Boulangerie, Danielles and Rio City Cafe.

Apart from the nightlife, Sacramento is known for its love for art. The Sacramento Convention Center and the Memorial Auditorium are the main theater venues of Sacramento. The Crocker Art Museum is also situated in this beautiful capital city of California and happens to be the oldest public art museum located to the west of the Mississippi River.

“Canarians of the Mississippi: The Canary Islanders In Louisiana” is the lastest work by Manuel Mora Morales, for his unfinished series “La Ruta del Gofio: History of the Canarian Immigration.” The documentary was filmed around the marshes of the Mississippi River in Louisiana, USA in 2005 and 2006. It tells the story of the Canarian Islanders who immigrated to Louisiana in the 18th century in order to establish colonies and to defend Spanish territories from the British and French forces in the area. “Canarians of the Mississippi” is produced by Amazonas Films and is being released in Spanish and English versions.
To this day there are descendants of the first Canarian immigrants, known as “islenos,” that continue speaking the Castilian language with the same accent as their ancestors. During the last 200 years the islanders have been subject to perhaps the most unusual story of the Canarian Migration; while it is full of unusual tales and events the story of the islanders is the least known inside and outside the archipelago.
Mention could be made of their important contributions to the American War of Independence, the islander battalions under General Lee and their presence in the American congress, as well as other numerous political figures whom have influenced politics in the United States government.
Many traditions and folklore in the islander community that exist today came from the Canary Islands over two centuries ago: music (the decima,) food (the caldo) and folk healing known as Curanderismo.
The documentary also contains historic interviews with islanders as well as antiquated film footage of the great flood of 1927. Canarians of the Mississippi is more significant though for its treatment of the effects of Hurricane Katrina on the Islander community and it’s struggle to survive.
While most of the documentary was filmed shortly before the hurricane, Mora Morales returned to Louisiana in 2006 and found that many people and places had disappeared or no longer existed. Many of the films informants have been direct or indirect victims of the Hurricane, including Charles Robin who died in January 2006.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Manuel Mora Morales was born in Canary Islands in 1952. He has spent many years as a writer, editor and filmmaker and is currently President of the Canarian Editors Association. His most important work has been writing and directing the documentary series La Ruta del Gofio: History of the Canarian Migration. The first part of the series has been televised TV several times (Television Autonomica Canaria). Mora Morales is currently still working on the subject of the Canarian migration to the United States.
