“Community leaders in Cairo (Illinois) are among the strongest proponents of breaching the levee, which would divert floodwaters to about 130,000 acres of private and public property within the spillway, most of which is in Mississippi County. In his ruling, Limbaugh ruled against the State of Missouri and with the Corps of Engineers and the states of Illinois and Kentucky, which maintained the Corps had the authority to blow the levee.”

http://www.semissourian.com/story/1723127.html

this WHOLE THING just seems drastic and crazy and has got my head spinning with conspiracy theories!! Like the farmland, there has been rumors for a good while on the internet about the government’s plans to bare down on private agriculture and put them out of business, make having private gardens illegal, etc. This, in order to control food and make it more scarse + create food shortages. That way we run to them so they can “feed” us. Moo, much? omfg

And also
the “future map” of the U/S/A that Edgar Cayce first released shows the Mississippi Valley/New Madrid area being washed out and becoming shoreline =\ which, unfortunately, makes topographical sense. -_- Next on the chopping block: San Andreas fault zone

US not USA Army Corps of Engineers wake up planned flood of usa Louisiana 2011 Mississippi River rulesofethics

By opening its floodgates engineers are able to control the flow of the floodwaters, diverting them around Baton Rouge into the Atchafalaya river basin, a low-lying area of central Louisiana.

Morganza Spillway

* Built in 1954 to relieve flood pressure on Mississippi River
* Last opened in 1973
* 20 miles (32.2km) long
* 125 gates release up to 600,000 cubic feet/sec (17,000 cubic metres/sec)

Water will flow south, flooding homes and farms in the state’s Cajun country under an expected 10-20ft of water.

Over several days, the water should run south to Morgan City – where workers are rushing to reinforces levees – and then into the Gulf of Mexico.

Corps spokesman Col Ed Fleming said: “It’s a historic day, not only for the entire Mississippi River but for the state of Louisiana”.

“Today’s the first day in the history of our nation that we have had three floodways open.”

Col Fleming said the opening would be slow to “make sure folks have the understanding that water is coming their way and they evacuate according to their local procedures”.

Wildlife also needed time to get to higher ground. Opening all 125 gates on the spillway would release 600,000 cubic ft of water every second.

Floodwaters are still backed up in east Arkansas. The Mississippi River has crested at Memphis, but it has to do so at Arkansas City in southeast Arkansas …

Four Central Louisiana parishes expected to see some flooding

Communities near rivers in Central Louisiana continue preparing for the worst as an overloaded Mississippi River threatens to flood cities near the river and its tributaries.

Meanwhile, the process to open 28 of the 350 floodgates of the Bonnet Carre Spillway was begun Monday began by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and officials are still deciding whether to open the Morganza Spillway to provide further relief from the surging Mississippi waters.

Local officials are making plans in case levees are breached.

According to the latest estimated inundation maps released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, parts of Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia and LaSalle parishes are expected to flood.

Concordia Parish officials decided on Monday to move to Level 2 of the parish’s evacuation plan, which is the suggested pre-planning for evacuation and pre-packaging of irreplaceable property. Level 3 in a voluntary evacuation, while Level 4 is a mandatory evacuation.

Among the local officials who met Monday morning to make the decision were Concordia Parish Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington, Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland, Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin, Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell and Morris White, the parish’s director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

This video shows the historic Mississippi River flooding crest in downtown Memphis on May 5, 2011 along the I-40 Memphis bridge. This was shot the day of the crest. The levels are the highest of all Mississippi River floods in history — beyond The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, and well beyond the 1993 Mississippi Flood. Despite the flood levees upstream being blown-up by the Army Corps of Engineers, the waters have continued to rise. No real flood damage in Memphis, but the river’s western banks extended into West Memphis, Arkansas shutting down businesses and necessitating evacuation of some residents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drainage_in_New_Orleans
Drainage in New Orleans, Louisiana has been a major concern since the founding of the city in the early 18th century, remaining an important factor in the history of New Orleans through today. Flooding threatens New Orleans from three sources: the Mississippi River, Lake Pontchartrain, and natural rainfall. Artificial levees have been built to keep out rising river and lake waters but have had the negative effect of keeping rainfall in. New Orleans was originally built on natural levees along the Mississippi River that were a result of soil deposits left from the river’s annual floods. The site chosen for New Orleans had many advantages. Because it sits where distance between the river and Lake Pontchartrain is shortest, Louisiana Indians had long used the area as a depot and market for goods carried between the two waterways. The narrow strip of land also aided rapid troop movements, and the river’s crescent shape slowed ships approaching from downriver and exposed them to gunfire, however flooding was always a hazard. The first artificial levees and canals were built in early colonial times. They were erected to protect New Orleans against routine flooding from the Mississippi River. The ‘back of town’ away from the river originally drained down into the swamps running toward Lake Pontchartrain. Flooding from the lake side was rare and less severe as most of the old town had been built on high ground along the riverfront. As the city grew, demand for more land encouraged expansion into lower areas more prone to periodic flooding. For most of the 19th century most residential buildings were raised up at least a foot above street level (often several feet), since periodic flooding of the streets was a certainty at the time. In the 1830s state engineer George T. Dunbar proposed an ambitious system of underground drainage canals beneath the streets. The goal was to drain water by gravity into the low lying swamps, supplementing this with canals and mechanical pumps. The first of the city’s steam engine powered drainage pumps, adapted from a ship’s paddle wheel and used to push water along the Orleans Canal out to Bayou St. John, was constructed in this decade. However, only a few of Dunbar’s plans were actually implemented as the panic of 1837 largely ended major systematic improvements for a generation. In 1859 surveyor Louis H. Pilié improved the drainage canals, bricking in some portions. Four large steam ‘draining machines’ were built to push water through the canals into the lake. In 1871, some 36 miles (58 km) of canals were built in the city for both improved drainage and small vessel shipping within town. However, despite earlier efforts, at the end of the 19th century it was still common for water to cover streets from curb to curb after rainstorms, sometimes for days. In 1893, the city government formed the Drainage Advisory Board to come up with better solutions to the city’s drainage problems. Extensive topographical maps were made and some of the nation’s top engineers were consulted. In 1899, a bond was floated, and a 2 mill per dollar property tax approved, which funded and founded the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans. The Sewerage & Water Board had the responsibility of draining the city along with constructing a modern sewage and tap water system for the city, which, at the time, still relied heavily on cisterns and outhouses. (A different entity, the Orleans Levee Board, is in charge of supervision of the city’s levee and floodwall system. )The Sewerage & Water Board found A. Baldwin Wood, a young engineer who not only supervised the plans for improved drainage and pumping, but also invented a number of improvements in pumps and plumbing in the process. These improvements were not only used in New Orleans, but adopted all over the world. This is a continuation of the Mississippi River flood currently taking place. As more and more people have become aware of the danger’s that are looming for the state of Louisiana they are also becoming aware of choices that have been made in this dilemma.

One major decision that has come up in our current situation was to blow some levees, which they did in the first week of May, 2011. Upon doing this they saved some small town and redirected the flow of the water from the Mississippi.

Now there is a threat of Baton Rouge, La and New Orleans, La being flooded out by the swollen Mississippi River. As a result, another decision regarding levees had to be made and that was to open the Morganza spillways with the objective of again, redirecting the flow of the flooding Mississippi. They wish to sacrifice thousands of acres of farm land in and flood it all out, in order to save these two majorly populated cities – Material objects have been traded for food.

With an ever growing threat of food shortage our country can’t take a drop in food production, on top of rising prices for gas and food. This could very well begin a string of famine that could cause a lot of losses of life over the coming year.

Finally, one can’t help but wonder, with all the predictions over the past few thousands of years, modern sciences predictions of this area flooding, is it all true? Can all of these predictions actually be coming true? Will Louisiana and parts of Texas permanently be flooded? With the BP Oil spill and it’s effects on the area, the land in southern New Orleans won’t be able to handle the weight of flood levels of water. It will quite literally weaken the land and cause an even bigger problem…

This video outlines all of these points in great detail! The west coast of the United States is going to flood too. For with all these predictions, there has always been a second part to it – and that is the flooding of the west coast as well. There are talks of beginning drilling in Alaska. Another oil disaster, mixed with the active earthquakes in the region, may be all they need to create the same stages of devastation on the west coast as well. After this happens, America will be permanently devastated and unrecognizable!

As of May of 2011 we’ve all noticed that the Mississippi has reached Record Breaking flood levels that haven’t been touched since 1937. The government has organized destruction of levees to help direct the flow of the flood in an attempt to save certain land masses. Whether or not this is a good thing or bad thing, it cannot be denied that there is a historical flood taking place before our eyes.

What is interesting however is whether or not these events were known about. An interesting fact is that this flood event has been studied and predicted by modern scientists around the world for decades. There have been maps produced and various airings of this information to show just where these scientists believe the floods will take place, however nothing on a mass scale to inform citizens in these areas of the possibility. It was believed this event would take place in 2011 or 2012. I believe we’re watching it take place before our eyes!

Also, if this event is in fact true, and this area of the U.S. does in fact end up under water, then there is another region in our Country that is in danger and that is the entire west coast. These aren’t hollow predictions or spiritual predictions but rather what we all claim to wish to have when dealing with events of this scale – scientific proof. From all the studies done over the past few decades, and with all the hypothesis handed out by countless Scientists, I’d say this is something we should take seriously!

The west coast has been cluttered with earthquakes all up and down the west coast since Jan. of this year, and notably more than usual in this small amount of time! Is it possible that a major earthquake on the west coast could be the cause of a possible flood of Washington, California, and Oregon? Is this just another case of misplaced fear, or truth that can be taken as a warning?

(see these cluttered earthquakes at – http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/)
