After a lovely dinner in the Natchez’s dinning hall (from 6 to 7pm), the steamboat started the relaxing cruise on the Mississippi River where the passengers enjoyed the view of the New Orleans’ skyline for the next two hours with a live Jazz music band playing during the last hour.

This video is from Geoff’s Hobie Adventure Island Trimaran Pedal Sailboat looking at barges coming up the river with Bob’s Custom Outrigger Canoe in view. Barge’s were by far the biggest issue navigating the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers on our journey. One must anticipate where they are heading by considering the channel marked by red and green buoys.

The recent launching of American Cruise Lines’ brand new sternwheeler, Queen of the Mississippi, went picture perfect and nine weeks ahead of schedule at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland. The traditional side launch took place just a few weeks after the joining of the two hull sections, weighing almost 500 tons apiece. With the addition of the fourth and fifth decks up next, Queen of the Mississippi’s superstructure will come together quickly, giving shape to the first riverboat built for the Mississippi in nearly twenty years.
