Lake Minnetonka has always boasted boats and yachts of all sizes. The largest vessel ever to ply its waters was Belle of Minnetonka, a 300 foot long steamboat owned by the “Empire Builder” James J. Hill. No boat on Lake Minnetonka will ever match the Belle’s size; the largest vessel today is Al and Alma’s Bella Vista, an eighty-three foot long Skipperliner.
What makes Lake Minnetonka more unique than any other is its diversity. There are the modern yachts of today with their sleek glass and metal work and vintage cruisers with their gleaming woodwork exchanging salutes and passing by one another on a regular basis. Included in this variety are a couple of steamboats, one of which being the streetcar steamboat Minnehaha, Minnesota’s most famous boat.
Among the thousands of boats registered on the fourth busiest lake in the nation, there are about thirty that stand out in size from the others. This video features most of these boats, listed from smallest to largest. Most of the large boats are open for public cruises or private charters.
Lake Minnetonka was, is, and always will be known for its boats. The boats of today come from both the past and from the future, but they are all assets to Minnesota’s most famous inland lake.

explaining brief history why we have minneapolis-st paul. two cities in between from Mississippi River divide them 13 miles apart. Many says its rivalry cities, fighting over whos the best economy, and competition of building bigger churches, business, etc.. Each city have their own baseball teams, banks, church, etc- never willing share until after 1960’s it became lost history.
